On a rainy November evening in the heart of Manhattan’s Times Square, the warmth and spirit of ACS Athens shone brightly as over 35 alumni gathered to reconnect and reminisce. Coming together from across the New York metro area, as well as New Jersey and Connecticut, the evening also welcomed alumni visiting from as far as San Francisco and Edinburgh, Scotland. Hosted at the modern YOTEL New York Times Square, the event brought together graduates spanning generations — from the Class of 2025 all the way back to 1968 — each sharing memories from their school days, stories from their university journeys, and reflections on their professional paths since ACS Athens.
The evening was hosted by Dr. Peggy Pelonis, President of ACS Athens, and John Papadakis, Director of Alumni Affairs, marking the school’s second major alumni gathering in New York in recent years — following the memorable Gala in Central Park nearly a decade ago. Also attending were Board Member Demetri Paneras, a Manhattan resident, parent, and technology executive, and former Board Member and legal advisor Nick Karambelas, (class of 1972) who both addressed the group, thanking everyone for their ongoing connection and love for their alma mater. Their words echoed the deep sense of pride and belonging that continues to unite ACS Athens graduates worldwide.
Adding to the evening’s distinguished company were Argyris Argeitakos, former President of AHEPA Delphi Manhattan Chapter #25, and Basil Katsamakis, a well-known New York businessman, who both expressed their delight at seeing such a vibrant and diverse group of alumni come together. Reflecting on the evening, Dr. Pelonis shared, “It always amazes me to see the way our alums come together wherever we visit around the world, eager to join us and support the school. What a wonderful feeling to know that ACS Athens is everywhere.” The gathering not only celebrated shared memories but also reaffirmed the global strength and enduring spirit of the ACS Athens community.
