ACS Athens recently welcomed back Francis Daehoon Lee, Class of 1978. Daehoon is a peace researcher and educator whose work has taken him across Asia and around the world.

During his visit, Daehoon joined a class led by teachers Hercules Lianos and Marla Kokla for a conversation with current students. He talked about his high school years at ACS Athens after his family moved to Greece from South Korea. He also described the path that led him to a career devoted to peace.

Students were especially interested in his work in Peace Studies: what the field involves, and how it connects to safeguarding human rights and the demilitarization of new technologies.

"It was quite the honor to have a fellow alumnus visit our class," said Mr. Lianos. "We were equally proud of the interest and engagement of the students."

Daehoon's work includes:

• Peace researcher and educator
• Professor of Peace Studies in Korea and Japan
• Peace education work with UNESCO and other international organizations
• Current Board Member of the International Peace Bureau
• Director of PeaceMOMO TEPI
• Advocate for peacebuilding, human rights, and the demilitarization of developing technologies

While on campus, Daehoon also sat down on camera with Dr. Pelonis for an Alumni Memory Lane conversation.

After returning to Korea, Daehoon wrote to thank the ACS Athens staff for their warm welcome. He said he was "excited and joyful by all the meetings and conversations."

Daehoon's story shows the reach of our alumni community, from a classroom in Halandri to the global work of building peace. Welcome home, Daehoon, and thank you for inspiring the next generation of ACS Athens students.
