Currently, more than 40 million people -- including 10 million children -- are living in modern slavery.
March 16, 2021, was marked as #MyFreedomDay, a day-long student-driven event where students worldwide came together to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.
During the #MyFreedomDay Global Forum on CNN, students from across Europe, Africa and the Middle East joined CNN's Becky Anderson and guest experts.
ACS Athens alumna Lydia Pinirou and senior Jason Somoglou also took part in the #MyFreedomDay Global Forum.
As Lydia commented, "It was a true honor to be a part of such a meaningful experience.
#MyFreedomDay CNN is an event led by students around the world who aim to raise awareness about ending modern-day slavery, something that takes place all around us, just out of sight.
Everyone can play an important role in raising awareness for human rights, and I hope to be able to play my part in more movements like this one."
