Byron chose to attend ACS Athens from 1989 to 1995 based on its reputation of high standards and its international student body.  He contributed to the school’s athletic program by participating and excelling in a variety of sports including track and tennis.  He was recognized as the Athlete of the Year in his senior year.  Following his graduation, he continued his education in Business Management at the American College of Greece, from where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in 2001.

Byron and his younger brother Philip, (who also graduated from ACS Athens in '98) are co-owners of a group of three rapidly expanding companies in the fields of environment and energy called ANTIPOLLUTION S.A., GREEN S.A., AND KAFSIS S.A.  More specifically, Byron is the Chairman and CEO of Antipollution S.A., one of the largest waste management companies in Greece and the leading Greek company in Port Reception facilities, Solid Ship-Generated Waste Management and Cargo Residues.  He serves as the Chairman of GREEN S.A., the biggest Greek electricity trading and supplying company with subsidiaries all around Southeastern Europe.

In addition, Byron is a member of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA), Europe’s first private sector voluntary marine environment protection association. He is also very actively involved as a member of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association, the national member of the International Solid Waste Association for Greece as well as a member of DESMOS, which assists in the cultivation of social and humanitarian responsibility.

Who is Byron Vassiliades?

In his free time, Byron enjoys running, swimming, and surfing.

“I have supported fundraisers and charities to orphanages, institutions, and organizations for the sake of society by offering equipment, food, and financial support on an ongoing basis. I have taken an active role in supporting refugees by providing necessities. Employees from all the companies in our group have participated in volunteer efforts for the protection of the environment such as “Let’s Do It Greece,” that encourage the voluntary participation of country site cleanups. Our team has tackled remediation of beaches and promoted public environmental awareness.”

His mother, Anthippi, was born in Asia Coast, and his father Nikolaos, in Athens and with Karpathian roots. “My grandfather from my father’s side, Alexander Vassiliades, was a shipbroker.  My grandfather from my mother’s side, Byron Tzilalis, was the owner of a candle and plastic factory in Istanbul.

In addition to a well-rounded education, Byron feels that ACS Athens prepared him well for furthering his studies.  This is where he was able to make “true and lifelong friends.”  As a successful business professional, Byron shares the following words of advice to new ACS Athens graduates:
