ACS Athens alumna Dr. Mariam Elgabry has a unique way of introducing the many unique aspects of her personality and career that make her special by answering Romeo’s otherwise ill-fated question “what’s in a name?”

E - Entrepreneur

L - Leader

G - Global citizen

A - Athlete

B - Biotechnologist

R - Researcher

Y - “Y” is she so passionate about all of these facets?

Why?

Because she is passionate about building a future for playful healthcare empowered by a paradigm shift that inspires people to interact, and subsequently take a more active role, in their healthcare.

Starting at the Beginning

Mariam Elgabry’s latest venture focuses on helping new parents better understand and address their baby’s healthcare, which starts in those precious tummies.

According to Dr. Elgabry and her team, healthy gut bacteria help children develop immune systems, from the moment they are born until they are about three years old. Imbalances in early “belly bugs” can increase chances of chronic conditions, such as allergies and type 1 diabetes.

Despite the fact that early childhood is seemingly a non-stop sequence of visits to the pediatrician’s office for many new parents, gut health is one area that is only considered AFTER an allergy or issue is discovered.

Dr. Elgabry and her team at Nurfy are now introducing an innovative in-home health monitor designed to make parenting just a little bit simpler. The device is as easy to use as changing a diaper, and allows parents to see how their baby’s gut health is transforming.

“I believe in a world where parents no longer fear the unknown,” said Dr. Mariam Elgabry. “Nurfy is our answer—a symbol of empowerment, offering parents the insight and understanding they need to navigate the beautiful journey of raising healthy, happy children.”

Nurfy taps into years of microbial research to compare how a child’s gut biome is progressing against expected milestones and signals to parents when proactive action needs to be taken with the support of their child’s pediatrician.

“Nurfy is more than a device; it's a promise to parents,” explained Dr. Elgabry. “I aspire to empower them with the tools to make healthcare fun, accessible, and social for their little ones from the very beginning. Together, we're building a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive."

"And it doesn't end there. Our vision extends beyond infants—Nurfy is committed to bringing this playful approach to healthcare to every stage of life," she continued. "We're on a mission to empower not just little ones, but every individual, making wellness an enjoyable and inclusive experience for all.”
